The five things that move the price

Breed
Broiler, layer and dual-purpose birds are priced differently because the parent stock and the hatchery economics behind them differ. Improved dual-purpose breeds such as Kuroiler and Rainbow Rooster usually sit apart from commercial broilers and layers again.

Order size
Handling, boxing and transport barely change between a small order and a larger one, so the cost per bird usually falls as the order grows. Ask where the breaks are rather than assuming.

Vaccination
Whether vaccination is included in the quoted price or added on top is the single most common reason two quotes look different. Always ask which vaccinations are covered.

Demand on that hatch
Chicks come off on a date. When many farmers want the same week, the earlier bookings get the birds. Prices and availability move together around peak demand.

Distance and transport
Boxing, ventilation and the journey itself cost something. A price that looks lower may exclude transport, or include transport in conditions you would not choose.
How to compare two quotes properly
Put both quotes on the same basis before you compare them. Write down the price per chick, then add anything the quote excludes, and only then compare the totals.

Why the cheapest chick is rarely the cheapest bird
Feed is the dominant cost in any poultry cycle, and it is spent on every bird whether that bird survives or not. A batch that loses a meaningful share of its birds in the first fortnight has already eaten the saving from a lower chick price, and then keeps eating.
